Zimbabwe is proudly home to the largest waterfall in the world. Known by the locals as Mosi-oa-Tunya - “the smoke that thunders” the roaring and beautiful Victoria Falls plummets an impressive 355 feet (108 metres) down to create a swirling spray into Devil’s Pool.

Some of the attractions in the area include bungee jumping, white water rafting, ziplining, cage diving, safari excursions, canopy tours, kayaking, canoeing, or swinging from dizzying heights on the gorge swing, and more.

Safari Excursions are perfect if you prefer enjoying wildlife from a safer distance. There is nothing quite as peaceful as a dusky Zimbabwean evening. With a sundowner in hand, watching shadows dancing across the ground as the light of the sinking African sun disappears below the horizon. As the light slowly fades it falls softly across the wildlife and creates an absolutely perfect picture.

Zimbabwe’s largest natural reserve, Hwange National Park, is a definite must-see! Wherever you go in Zimbabwe you will see some form of wildlife but nothing quite beats Hwange. Due to the emmense team effort of the National Parks Rangers and other conservation organizations Hwange is normally a safe home to a variety of wildlife.

Sadly, poaching is a reality and it was here that, Cecil and Xanda, two male lions, were killed on hunting expiditions. Despite the danger that the poachers present, the national parks officials and conservationists unwaveringly make every effort to protect the wildlife. Because of this there are many lovely animals to see. So if you like safari tours, Hwange is one of the best places to be.

Similar to Hwange is the beautiful Mana Pools. It’s one of the favorites among Zimbabweans for a weekend camping trip. Camping in Mana Pools can be a little hair raising when a lion or hyena comes a bit too close to your tent for comfort.

Fortunately, the reserve offers a range of lodges for the slightly more cautious visitor. The animals will still be on your front doorstep but at least you’ll have the comfort of brick and mortar between you and the rough yet stunning outdoors.

A visit to the Eastern Highlands might surprise you after seeing most of Zimbabwe’s bush and feeling the heat of the merciless African sun. In stark contrast, Nyanga and the Vumba greet you with stately green, pine, gum, and wattle forests.

The cold and very often icy temperatures are a welcoming and refreshing change. You can enjoy mountain hikes while collecting pine cones in the fresh scented forests or try your luck on the immaculate golf courses of Troutbeck (Nyanga) or Leopard Rock Hotel (Bvumba).

There is nothing quite like the clean spicy air peppered with the scent of mountain herbs. Trout fishing, horseback riding, and boat rides, are some of the attractions. One of the most incredible experiences is the majestic Sky Walk. The fantastic views will take your breath away if the exhilaration from walking on a bridge so far above ground hasn’t already done that.

“The place of elephants.” The meaning of the name, Gonarezhou, is an acurate description of Zimbabwe’s second-largest national park and one of it’s most famous wilderness areas.

From the Save River in the north to the Mwenezi River in the south, the park stretches over 5,053 square kilometres, an outstanding 1.25 million acres. Gonarezhou National Park has some of the most spectacular landscapes in southern Africa. The famous Chilojo cliffs are just one of the stunning attractions of the national park. Another remarkable feature are the magnificent elephants that roam in large herds across the grasslands. Gonarezhou is home to over 11,500 of these distinguished beasts.
